Vaccinations for Morocco
Before travelling to Morocco, it is recommended to check with a healthcare provider or a travel clinic for the latest vaccination recommendations. Some vaccinations are recommended or required for visitors to Morocco to protect against certain diseases that are prevalent in the country.
The following vaccinations are generally recommended for visitors to Morocco:
- Routine vaccinations: These include vaccinations such as measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella (chickenpox), and polio. It is recommended to ensure that these vaccinations are up to date before travelling to Morocco.
- Hepatitis A: This vaccination is recommended for all travellers to Morocco, as the disease is prevalent in the country and can be transmitted through contaminated food and water.
- Typhoid: This vaccination is recommended for travellers who plan to visit rural areas or who will be staying in accommodations with poor sanitation.
- Rabies: This vaccination may be recommended for travellers who plan to participate in outdoor activities or who will be in close contact with animals.
Additionally, it is recommended to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, as certain diseases such as Zika, dengue fever, and chikungunya are present in Morocco. You will be collected from your Riad in Marrakesh at 0800 and transferred through the foothills of the High Atlas β passing traditional Berber market towns and the spectacular Moulay Brahim gorge β to the village of Imlil (1,740m). Here you will meet your mountain guide, who will brief you on the days ahead and check your equipment. Rental gear is available in Imlil village centre if required.
Starting your day early in Marrakech, you'll wind your way up through the Moulay Brahim Gorge and the upper valleys, taking in the stunning scenery along the way. As you arrive at the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, you'll meet up with your Berber muleteer crew who will accompany you on your trek.
