 Riads in Marrakesh

A riad is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an interior garden or courtyard. The word "riad" comes from the Arabic word for garden, "ryad." These structures are commonly found in cities like Marrakesh, Fes, and other historic Moroccan cities. Riads are known for their unique architecture and design, featuring an open central courtyard adorned with plants, fountains, and sometimes a small pool.

Riads are characterised by their inward-facing design, with rooms and windows opening onto the central courtyard. This layout provides privacy and a peaceful atmosphere for residents. The architecture often includes intricate tilework, carved wooden doors and windows, and other decorative elements that showcase traditional Moroccan craftsmanship.

Many riads in Marrakech have been converted into boutique hotels or guesthouses, offering visitors a chance to experience traditional Moroccan architecture and hospitality. Staying in a riad can provide a more intimate and culturally immersive experience compared to larger hotels, as they often preserve the historical and cultural aspects of Moroccan living spaces.
