Why canβt I pay for my climb online when Iβm travelling abroad?
Concerning online payments, we've noticed that when climbers attempt transactions from foreign countries, the system often detects and rejects the payment. This happens because the payment processor's software utilises algorithms to recognize the transaction's origin based on the computer's IP address, raising concerns of potential fraud when the payment is made from a different country than the card's issuance. Interestingly, there appears to be an assumption that simultaneous travel and purchases are an unexpected scenario.
To tackle this issue, we suggest that individuals looking to make payments while abroad reach out to their bank. They can ask the bank to activate a specific feature allowing online card usage during international travel. Alternatively, individuals may consider contacting a trusted family member or a similar contact in their home country. This person could assist in processing the payment from the individual's home country or place of residence.
If these solutions are not practical, we encourage you to consult the International Payment Information document for guidance on making wire transfers.
